Thanks, I adapted it for 2.3.8:
    http://www-user.tu-chemnitz.de/~fri/cyrus-imapd-patches/

IMAP REFERRALS can be disabled by /etc/imapd.conf:
proxyd_disable_mailbox_referrals: 1

Seems to work for me (tried with pine).
