When I type in $ /usr/local/bin/imtest -m login localhost

I get:

Log file auth.log says:

imap[343]: cannot connect to saslauthd server: No such file or directory

imapd.log says:

imap[343]: badlogin: localhost [::1] plaintext jlbrown SASL(-1): generic failure: checkpass failed

Looking at the FAQ it said to make sure the the cyrus user can access the unix domain socket (defaults to /var/run/mux). This file did not exist, so I did:

touch /var/run/mux

to create it. Changed permissions on the file to user cyrus.

If I start saslauthd using:

/usr/local/sbin/saslauthd -a shadow it says:

saslauthd[390] :set_auth_mech : unknown authentication mechanism: shadow

Running on a Mac OS X 10.4.7 system.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

James.
