Tell Nomcom you will devote 25%

If you are -- or would like to be -- a candidate for an AD position, but
can (or will) only devote a more modest amount of time to the job, go
ahead and tell Nomcom, at your initiative.

Do not let the current time expectation block you from being a candidate.

State how much time you can commit
but also state very clearly how you will spend it.

In other words, define the job as you believe it should
be done, within the time constraints you set.

And of course, explain your choices of what to do... and what /not/ to do.

I'm told that this has been done before, for candidates who /have/ been
selected.

Let's make it a common and well-known practice.
