I would file that under "This has made a lot of people very angry and
been widely regarded as a bad move." One reason is that it is easy to
ignore parts of a thread with anything that qualifies as a mail client;
in my case, I probably skip over the uninteresting mails faster than I
can read a mail with the text above, so it's wasting my time more than
the mails it is complaining about, and adds unnecessary drama that is
likely to put people in a bad mood.
