If
Alice and Bob were intent on keeping their long-running secret affair
from the attention of all-seeing NSA traffic analysis, they would need
to encrypt or otherwise obfuscate their email addresses on a per-message
basis. Advertising a public key in LinkedIn or the pages of
cryptography text books does not achieve much.
