We already have this notion in the DNS -- that's what the search path function is for. M. Pouzin thinks this ought to be much more ubiquitous, in much the way that you don't have to dial the full phone path (or anyway, not everywhere) every time you call a local number. From this, he gets alternate roots. So he's not simply being a crank, though I don't fully understand how he gets to the conclusion he's reached.
