Mark Crispin wrote 25 RFCs between April 1977 and June 2008. He is the author of the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP4rev1) and he wrote c-client library which is the reference for IMAP. I learned a lot through his comments. Quoting one of his messages:

  "Instead of asking for new features from UW, think about implementing those
   features yourself.  Study the code.  Try to understand it.  Ask questions
about the internals to the remaining UW people while you still have a chance
   of getting an answer."
