Not really, it's the default setting for the WG lists and nobody bothered changing the setting. As mentioned in draft-koch-subject-tags-considered-00, the tag is ambiguous when used for list identification.

Discussions about subject tagging are rarely about compelling arguments; it's a religious debate. The tagging was introduced due to the inability of a well-known MUA to implement RFC 2919 for messages sorting. As time went by, people viewed it as the norm.

As this is a matter of local preference, it is better to leave it to the subscriber to add the subject tag if he/she believes that it is useful.
