As the sponsoring AD for Russ' draft, I'm very interested in hearing
what everyone thinks about this. Please keep those comments coming! The
last call was started as it was felt that discussion may have converged
enough so that we could perhaps move forward with this proposal, or at
least agree that its harmless and does not stand in the way of other
improvements that some people may wish in addition. We'll see what the
consensus will be. I can also see that some specific changes have
already been discussed. Thanks for all those suggestions.
But I also wanted to provide my own opinion. I would like to see the
draft adopted. I personally do not believe that it will make a very
significant change by itself; to a large extent the two (or even one)
level model is already the running code. However, it does make the
process a bit easier and it does allow us to get rid of at least some of
the cruft from the IETF process. I think it is very important to
simplify the process and align process documents with actual practice,
as these will make it easier to describe, use, and evolve the IETF
process. There are plenty of IETF process problems to address, even if
this draft moves forward.
