Richard and all, Open source software for some uses does provide for some utility. By a opposite token, open source software for other uses is an inhearent privacy and security risk for obvious reasons so indeed such also misses the point. I am in favor of any Good free software, but not a proponent of all software being free of course. Free software is the choice of the creator, not of the potential user.
