Please consider rejecting the draft mentioned above, even as an experimental protocol, for the IPR (patent) reasons that got recently disclosed. I believe that the objective of this memo is valuable, and to have such a mechanism available in TLS would be useful for the community. At the same time, the patent claim on the specific solution to the stated problem would exclude free software from exercising the proposed protocol. Instead, the community should seek solutions to the problem that don't require exercising the patent. If such a solution is found at some point, it would compete to the then-established experimental protocol; users would need to make a difficult choice of using the older, proprietary protocol or the newer, open protocol. Because of this possible scenario, accepting the memo now as experimental may cause confusion and non-interoperability in the future. Thank you for your consideration, Martin v.
