What might also be interesting to note was that the return rate was
very low. I don't recall the exact numbers, but after ruling out
variants of "I don't know the person" and single-word or single-line
responses, there were cases where I was left with only a handful of
opinions to go by. In some cases, a single negative opinion weighed
heavily in the discussions.
Perhaps if the feedback portal is open to all, future nomcoms might
get more useful feedback?

they will also evaluate the input based on context, e.g.,
recommendations by colleagues from the same company vs.
others, very different recommendations from different people,
people who have worked with the candidate in the IETF vs.
others, etc.
