Re: [Emo-dir] New Non-WG Mailing List: eodir (Education & Outreach Directorate)

There is no substantive difference. As discussed in the F2F emo-dir side meetings at IETF 115 and 116, we received some concerns about possible negative implications of the name emo-dir, and we decided to change the name to respect those concerns. The easy change was to take out the “m” because the mentoring program had long since been renamed to IETF Guides. Obviously, ego-dir was not a good fit so we decided to go with eo-dir because it implied the least amount of change. We haven’t change the charter or scope of the group, and we are hoping people will take the name change in stride and focus instead on making the group more effective. This doesn’t eliminate the somewhat disruptive mailing list, data tracker, and wiki changes that have to occur, but hopefully these will be short lived. For those of you on the emo-dir mailing list, you will receive information about the migration to eo-dir in the next day or so.
