If all devices are in one administrative domain, then authenticating the messages between devices is sufficient, and it's really an IS-IS issue that multiple administrative domains need a high degree of trust. However I'm not sure what the consequences of a split-brain scenario are where half the devices in a network think one thing was advertised and half something else.
