I have been thinking on this BT 4.x 5.x writing conundrum.

In my opinion, only the first use should we say 4.x and 5.x with wording that henceforth, only 4 and 5 will be used for 'simplicity'.  the '.x' is not needed in most cases, as it adds nothing.  What we use in BT is available (so far) in all variants.  And IF a new variant comes out that causes problems, what are we going to do, publish an errata on which variant scan be used?  We would have to do that anyway.

ERGO:  only 4.x and 5.x in first use.  Then only 4 and 5.
