Title : Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) Digest Authentication using Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) A3 and A8
Author(s) : B. Wallis
Filename : draft-wallis-http-digest-auth-a3a8-01.txt
Pages : 12
Date : 2008-2-8
This memo specifies a one-time password generation mechanism for Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) Digest access authentication based on Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) authentication and key generation functions A3 and A8. The HTTP Authentication Framework includes two authentication schemes: Basic and Digest. Both schemes employ a shared secret based mechanism for access authentication. The A3-A8 mechanism performs user authentication and session key distribution in GSM and Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) networks. A3-A8 is a challenge-response based mechanism that uses symmetric cryptography.

NOTE: The mail server at ietf.org can return the document in
MIME-encoded form by using the "mpack" utility. To use this
feature, insert the command "ENCODING mime" before the "FILE"
command. To decode the response(s), you will need "munpack" or
a MIME-compliant mail reader. Different MIME-compliant mail readers
exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with
"multipart" MIME messages (i.e. documents which have been split
up into multiple messages), so check your local documentation on
how to manipulate these messages.
Below is the data which will enable a MIME compliant mail reader
implementation to automatically retrieve the ASCII version of the
Internet-Draft.
