The IAB is ready to ask the RFC-Editor to publish Multilink Subnet Issues <draft-iab-multilink-subnet-issues-03.txt> as an Informational RFC. This document reviews the exploration of subnets and multiple links as IPv4 was standardized and deployed, which lead to the standardization of single link subnets. Recent efforts have revisited the notion of multi-link subnets, particularly for mobility and IPv6. This document provides a background of issues with multi-link subnets still pertinent for consideration today. The IAB solicits comments by February 23, 2006. Please send comments to the IAB (iab@iab.org), or to ietf@ietf.org. The document can be found at http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-iab-multilink-subnet-issues-03.txt From the Abstract: There have been several proposals around the notion that a subnet may span multiple links connected by routers. This memo documents the issues and potential problems that have been raised with such an approach.
