Document Action: 'The 'tag' URI scheme' to Informational RFC

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

The IESG has approved the following document:

- 'The 'tag' URI scheme '
   <draft-kindberg-tag-uri-07.txt> as an Informational RFC

This document has been reviewed in the IETF but is not the product of an
IETF Working Group.

The IESG contact person is Ted Hardie.

Technical Summary

The authors propose a "tag" Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) scheme and
describe its syntax. Tag URIs (also known as "tags") are designed to be unique
across space and time. There is no authoritative resolution mechanism for tag
URIs; they may, however, be used as entity identifiers.

Working Group Summary

This is not the product of a working group, though discussion of it did occur
on the uri@w3.org mailing list.

Protocol Quality

At the 2004URI BoF discussion on the appropriate registration mechanism
for URIs came to consensus on a shift to a pure registration model, since
attempts to discourage minting of new schemes has not resulted in fewer URI
schemes, only in a larger number of unregistered ones. In the absence of a new
registration document, new schemes which have been proposed as internet-drafts
are being processed with limited review.
