AND that sounds like what I've asked people to do the last time the "user
privacy" LEDs (MIC mute, sound mute) topic was raised, so I am also all for
it.

I don't know if we should allow anything but the alsa layer to toggle those
leds, though (at least without a module parameter).  It would be really nice
if, by default, the LED was permanently locked to the mixer hardware state
with no userspace override possible.
