I'm running Linux Mint 14 Kernel 3.5.0-19-generic on a Lenovo X1. When this problem happened, the trackpoint acted as follows -- it could move the cursor up and to the right, but slowly and jumpily; moving it in other directions caused the cursor to move around randomly; I don't think the buttons worked. The touchpad worked okay. (since the messages mention thermal issues, I'll note that the computer was well ventilated, wasn't running any big programs, and didn't feel even warm anywhere).

The track point and touch pad have been giving me problems since I first started using the computer a couple months ago -- to the point where I have to reboot almost daily. Very annoying. I've been using Linux of some sort almost exclusively since 1996 and I've never had to reboot so often. I hope I can be part of the solution.

About once a day or so the computer stops responding to the touch pad and track point at the same time. The keyboard works so I can alt-tab around to close various applications, but the only way I've found to control the pointer again is by rebooting. Once in a while after rebooting the cursor doesn't respond and I have to reboot twice.

Usually before the pointer stops working entirely it starts responding slower and lagging.

I've looked for solutions online but haven't found any. Does anyone have a solution or workaround better than rebooting?

Thanks and good luck using this information. I'll be happy to supply more if it helps.
