hard blocked / rfkill problem with 3g modem f5521gw

hi,

i have a problem to get decent handling of a sony erricsson f5521gw
3g/umts modem, built into a lenovo e320 laptop.
it goes to hard blocked state everytime the battery is taken out (in
case of sim card change).
the only way to get rid of the hard blocked state, is to reload bios
defaults (which is no option for real end users).
does anyone have a clue, how to get around this?
could updating the sonyericsson modem driver /firmware (using windows)
be an option?
btw
i have the latest lenovo bios
ubuntu 11.10 with kernel 3.0.0-13-generic
also tried vanilla kernels 3.1.4 and 2.6.39.4

thanks in advance for all pointers.

best regards,
thomas
