The last time I saw something like this, it was a lot of kernels ago with an extremely broken version of the ACPI video module loaded that did have the ACPI events of brighness and mode switch inverted... Please test in single user mode, text console, and make sure HAL and ACPID are not loaded. Also, I don't think I have the typical information I use to check things on the Z61e, so if you could send me the output of "acpidump" and the output of "dmidecode" (remove serial number and UUID), it might help. -- "One disk to rule them all, One disk to find them.
