There was a breakage in drivers/acpi/ec.c, which Henrique solved on his own until a patch was in Linus' tree. With -rc6 you should be able to remove the drivers/acpi/ec.c part from the thinkpad-acpi patch for -rc4 and it *should* apply (did not test yet). The needed fix for ec.c is in http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=4af8e10a6c57e7292862bd1703712f0565c7e429 (and in -rc6). So no, thinkpad-acpi won't be useless in 2.6.25.
