Dan, thanks to your hints, I got this new Huawei device to work: http://www.draisberghof.de/usb_modeswitch/bb/viewtopic.php?t=349 We don't need any change to the kernel module, because the device changes to USB product 1001 after switching. Now, what needs to be updated in order to make this device work out of the box?
