I have to do sudo -s test/udevtest.pl Otherwise I get the same error as you. I.e. it doesn't work if I do "cd test; ./udevtest", or if I do "sudo test/udev-test.pl" instead of using sudo -s. If you don't use sudo, I expect "su" will work just as well as "sudo -s". Hope this helps.
