I forgot to mention:

At least libraw1394 v2.0.1 is required to use such a device type based
permissions scheme.  (Current and stable is libraw1394 v2.0.2.)

IIDC cameras which are typically accessed via libdc1394 can be used via
this permission scheme independently of libraw1394; a libdc1394 v2
version is required.
