Here is a quick update on OSDL employee activities: Martine passed on to OSDL Lee Schermerhorn's GPL'ed Numa Page Migration tests. Bryce took a quick look at them. He thinks the tests look good. They seem very straight forward to use. Mary took a closer look and found them to address the NUMA migration as promised, which wasn't our priority, but certainly having the tests handed to us ups the priority! We just need to find a NUMA system in the lab that can actually run the tests. Also, we need more study to see if these can be adapted to our original requirements. Lee says they have to be ported to the latest changes in memory migration post 2.6.14. Meantime, Bryce hasn't given up on the power PC (to automate kernel fail-back), so we can use it with his test kit, but he also can't dedicate the time right now to trying the workaround. We talked about the best way to spend his limited time. The one thing Bryce could remember the community wanting were compile tests with different memory mode config options. He needs to do the same kind of compile testing for NFSV4, so he will work on implementing this feature in his test kit with the X86 machine he has. At first it won't do cross compiles for other architectures like PLM does. We still need to ask the developers "what are the important kernels to test?" once he gets it going. He thinks it may be technically feasible to add cross compile testing, but we prefer to see how well the first step is received. His posting of cross-compiles from PLM are not getting any response, but he can't easily make config changes with PLM, unfortunately. He is also looking into other multiple-cpu machines we have around here on other architectures to see if he can do the automatic fail-back to known good kernels.
