There is option for breaking backwards compatibility over a reasonable
time period. Assigning known new names for the defines now would allow
external users to be updated over time and once most known users have
been updated, the backwards compatibility defines could then be removed
from hostap.git. Similar approach has been used for some of the runtime
configuration parameters as well (with backwards compatibility cases
still remaining in the implementation at least for the next release).
