That's a good question. In our testing, we see a larger performance variation with FT over-the-DS (as it is more dependent on the underlying wired infrastructure), than with FT over-the-air. This often results in FT over-the-DS having a slower average roam time than FT over-the-air. However, FT over-the-DS can be faster than FT over-the-air with a well-designed wired infrastructure or when RF congestion is a problem, as the authentication frames do not need to be transmitted over-the-air.
