One difference between your custom platform and your laptop might be the hardware offload capabilities, and their correctness. Section 2.7 of the libgcrypt manual [1] lists the kinds of hardware libgcrypt can use and also describes how to disable them (for example in case the OS thinks the hardware supports a certain feature but it in fact does not or its implementation is somehow flawed).
