Assuming you are not explicitly disabling VHT in the network profile,
this would be a driver question and as such, should be directed to the
driver maintainers and not this mailing list. wpa_supplicant does not
select between 40 and 80 MHz channel bandwidth in client mode, i.e.,
this is driver/kernel functionality.
