It will probably work if you make the cells editable (https://developer.gnome.org/gtk3/stable/GtkCellRendererText.html#GtkCellRendererText--editable).
Alternatively, you could write your own cell renderer (maybe inheriting GtkCellRendererText) to handle the selection yourself.
