That's the name of MinGW compiler in Debian and derivatives (I originally spotted problem on Debian, and am now using Ubuntu): > dpkg -S $(which i586-mingw32msvc-gcc) mingw32: /usr/bin/i586-mingw32msvc-gcc And yes, I have compiled a lot of stuff (including older glib versions) with it and those compilations have been successfully used in Windows.
