But a bug report is a responsibility of some _paid_ developers, so their managers will be nagging the developers to resolve the issues. I.e. the bug report will hopefully appear on somebody's "to do" list. And it is good. Actually, the release notes of gtk+ series should have included some benchmarks on various OSes/with various backends. I.e. the bug report should be files first, and the research should be going after it.
