You have 2 choices in GTK:
a) only do GTK/GDK/backend operations in a single thread, with the
exception of calling g_idle_add()
b) use GDK thread locking primitives around every
GTK/GDK/backend operation, in every thread
Most people have found that (a) is preferable to (b).
