Why not? Windows is a GUI-oriented operating system. If it was done
like you suggest, somebody would complain about that...

That is a good point, I guess. Could you come up with a patch that
checks if the program has a console window, and in that case writes
the message to it, otherwise uses MessageBox()? Please open a bug in
bugzilla.gnome.org for this issue.
