Yes I know, older toolkits used to solve it this way. However most modern toolkits resize the content as soon as the slider is moved and are able to cope with it better than GTK (at least on my machine), e.g. moving the panes of k3b (a KDE based cdrecord frontend, qt: skinned, gtk: default theme) is smooth whereas gftp's panes always give an impression of beeing behind the cursor and showing visual ugliness.
