Hi, thanks for the reply... yes, pango seems to be working correctly. I've also noticed that if I run gtk-demo as root, rather than a user, instead of the segmentation fault I get: gtk-demo: relocation error: gtk-demo: undefined symbol: g_fopen though compiling one of the examples (calendar) and running it as root gives the segmentation fault as before. fc-cache hasn't made a difference (that I can tell). <(side note: I spent some time fighting suse enterprise on our amd64 <server, but it was just missing too many basic packages IMO. Of course <you may not have this choice, but amd64 Ubuntu had all the packages I <needed and correctly detected and configured all my odd server <hardware ... worth a try) no, can't use a different linux version (its for a Cray). Thanks, agb. <> I'm trying to install gtk 2.6 on an AMD64 machine, which has suse <> enterprise linux installed (and gtk 2.0).
