You need to use GNU gettext library for this. intltool is set of utilities that will help you generate .po file. Than, you need to translate .po file and create binary .mo file from it. After all, you need to select locale in your app, which will then use appropriate .mo file.



But, you do not need to translate GTK strings like "Exit" or "Open" from standard buttons and others, GTK has already been translated to Spanish so when you select GTK locale in your app, GTK text will be translated.



There is a tricky part how to do this on Win32. I have similar problem as you some time ago, and I got help on this list from Tor Lillqvist:
