I'm actually starting work on such a system. The work will be in the DirectFB cvs and based on directfb as the core system. Over the weekend I'll be checking in Cairo running on directfb and later in the week the GTK port upgraded to work with the latest CVS. Then after some more testing I'll start working on the GTK makefiles to allow custom embedded builds. If you need X11 support I was planning on eventually porting the Xserver to run on top of GTK using the rootless framework that in freedesktop.org see xserver/miext/rootless Later it would be nice to workout a way for GTK to use the directfb backend for local apps and transparently use the X protocol prob via xcb for remote apps.
