There's nothing like upgrade from Gtk+-1.2 to Gtk+-2.x (library-wise). They are incompatible, but can coexist and must be installed *both* if you have application linked with both. From a practical viewpoint they are simply two different libaries. Reinstall Gtk+-1.2.
