There are applications that require unstable development snapshots of
GTK+? Are you sure that you don't want to install the latest release
from the stable gtk+-2.4 series instead?

Applications that need glib-1.2 won't work with glib-2.x so
uninstalling glib-1.2 and gtk+-1.2 was a bad idea. gtk+-1.2 and
gtk+-2.x are incompatible versions but can be installed in
parallel.
