xpm from char string

In the toolbar section of the tutorial, there is this xpm "gtk cube"
image declared as a string like that:
static char * gtk_xpm[]
I don't understand how that works.
But actually my question is how to use it in the example.
I tried to use method gtk_image_new_from_pixmap(), but how do I put this
string in the pixmap?
What is the way to do it?

Thanks,
Greg
