Hi, I've been reading the very long thread "why is gtk install so difficult?", and I'd like to add my own comments. I've been building GTK for quite a while now, on both a desktop machine and cross compiling onto embedded devices, and I'd like to say that for a program of GTK's size it is one of the easiest programs I have ever built. Maybe what is needed is a FAQ for building programs with the GNU autobuild tools. I could write one that would only be a few hundred words at most (preferably smaller) that could describe the problems and solutions that everyone on this list has had problems with. I could address --help (The most important option) --prefix ld-config PATH LD_LIBRARY_PATH pkg-config PKG_CONFIG_PATH --x-includes= (I saw this come up in an earlier post) --x-libraries= --enable-feature, etc. then maybe a small section on cross compiling, and pkg building problems with configure scripts on cross compiling dev. pkg. vs. runtime pkg. --build --host --target (not really gtk related) DESTDIR, --prefix Does anyone have any other ideas of what to add? Please CC me on any reply, since I'm on the digest version of this list, and I won't get list e-mails immediately. David -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ David Meggy Engineering Technical Solutions Inc.
