it's working now, maybe i had some flag set that wouldn't let me resize it.. (i'm still new to this and have to learn this stuff...) what kind of creation flag would make it do that? i guess it would have to be in my gtk_window_set_policy to have FALSE for allow_shrink and allow_grow, huh? i'm getting through my book slowly :) thanks.
