Problem with "-R" option

Hi!

I´ve got a new notebook with a builtin synaptics touchpad - it is recognized by
gpm as it should be.

Unfortunately it is treated as a ordinary PS2 device by X. During my attempts
to make the touchpad-features (scrolling and so on) available in X I tried out
the -R option of gpm.

But when I cat /dev/gpmdata and move the mouse or press some buttons nothing is
cat´ to the console.

Am I wrong with my ideas?

Is there a possibility of making the touchpad-features available within X with
the help of gpm?
Is there a program available to test the "touchpad-features" provided by gpm?

Thanks a lot,
Maier Gerfried
