Hi,

as noted in the changelog, the processing of the 'optional' rule has
slighly changed in 2.2.7. Take a look at the update documentation at
http://www.gnugk.org/gnugk-manual-8.html#ss8.1

Maybe you are looking for the 'sufficient' or 'alternative' rule ?
