Hi, GnuGK proxy does not retime RTP traffic. It adds only a very small amount of jitter (typically < 1 ms), but if the GK is distant from both endpoints, jitter from both network links will of course get added. If your setup permits, you may be able to avoid running in proxy mode and get better performance. What is at the other end? If it is a provider's gateway, then you probably have no control over their jitter buffer. If your outbound voice is bad (because of jitter), then there is no adjustment at your end that will help. Are you sure that your quality problems are caused by jitter? You may have packet loss, or your provider may be using a different compression codec to the destination. Cascaded compression codecs sound awful; if you have enough bandwidth, see if G.711 sounds any better. If the jitter is caused by other traffic on your LAN or on your Internet connection, a router with QoS features may help. If your outbound voice is ok, but you are hearing poor quality, using an IP phone or an ATA may help, because they are usually better than softphones at concealing the effects of lost or late packets. If your network configuration permits, try some test calls without using the GK; it's conceivable that the GK is causing lots of jitter because of lost interrupts, another task preempting it, etc. --Stewart ________________________________________ From: Code Nirmata [mailto:codenirmata@xxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, January 03, 2006 9:55 PM To: GnuGK User Forum Subject: Suitable Buffers and Jitter of GnuGK-2.2.3-2 Hi all.
