After I booted to SMP kernel I tried to monitor gnugk by using the gnugk control center (btw - a very nice program...). I just got a screen shot that showed that there were much less calls connected than I expected (7 instead of 70). But I didnt see much more, because the system frozes some seconds after using gnugk control center. The system was no longer pingable. I dont know if it was still running and accessable by console. I "ordered" a cold start of the system.
This happend twice. Because it was a production system, I couldnt examine the problem further and switched back to generic kernel without SMP.
Thus I can give only the hint that there may be a serious problem. We will install another host with the same configuration within the next days. I will report, if I can observe these problems again.
Regards Jan

Subject: Re: FreeBSD 5.x SMP & GnuGk 2.2.1
I am using SMP machines and did not notice any problems. Maybe the problems are not related to SMP? Try to post a full log (level 5 or 6) for a single call.

There is some problem using SMP kernel on FreeBSD 5.3 & 5.4 (RC-2) & gnugk 2.2.1. Just after starting (in log, many lines):
2005/04/19 14:25:28.079 3 ProxyChannel.cxx(2714) RTP x.x.x.x:x
socket has no destination address yet, 32 bytes queued
2005/04/19 14:25:28.081 3 ProxyChannel.cxx(3490) Proxy x.x.x.x:x
forward blocked
2005/04/19 14:25:28.085 5 ProxyChannel.cxx(3576) Proxy 1 sockets to flu
sh...
2005/04/19 14:25:28.087 3 ProxyChannel.cxx(2728) RTP x.x.x.x:x
socket has no destination address yet, flush ignored
There are many calls in "Setup" state but few "Connected". When you try to call you hear oly silence (RTP channel is not established?)
Without SMP kernel everything is OK.
Maybe it is needed some extra options to configure the kernel besides the "SMP"?
Does anybody have an effect similiar to this? Any suggestions?
Regards.
