I finally managed to compile gnugk. I use the old stable libraries and used this setup:
./configure --with-large-fdset --disable-mysql
make optdepend
make optnoshared

I got a 6Mb file (as oposed to the standard 9) that doesn't give me segmentation faults anymore.

HOWEVER, it doesn't seem to be reading the config file at all! I tried copying gatekeeper.ini in the start directory, Gatekeeper.ini, tried it with -c in the command line. Nothing worked.
Worth mentioning is that I am using the 2.2.1 precompiled gnugk from the site with the same config file and it works.
Any hints?
